Nutella Cold Brew Recipe: The Nutty, Chocolatey Cold Brew Coffee of Your Dreams

Just so you know, if you click on a product on RoastyCoffee.com and decide to buy it, we may earn a small commission.

The title of this recipe shouldn’t be surprising; it was only a matter of time before a coffee drink made use of Nutella. And why wouldn’t it? Adding chocolate or hazelnut to a cup of coffee isn’t unusual, so blending a combination of the two popular flavors into your joe isn’t all that strange either.

Because these flavors play well together and with those found in high-quality rich joe, we’re excited to introduce you to Nutella cold brew coffee and walk you through how to make it at home.

We received a batch of cold brew coffee from our friends at Atlas Coffee (you can read up on the brand and its subscription service here), so that’s what we used for this recipe. While we recommend checking out this brand and their java, it’s not necessarily a must-have for this recipe; feel free to use whatever joe you have on hand to make this iced coffee concoction. What is Nutella?

Here’s the short answer: Nutella is a gift from the gods.

Long answer: it’s a spread made of sugar, palm oil, hazelnut, cocoa solids, and skim milk, packed with delicious hazelnut cocoa flavor. We tend to eat spoonsful of this creamy goodness straight from the jar —don’t judge us; you do it, too — but you can use it the same way you would peanut butter and spread it on a piece of toast or add a dollop of it to your favorite dessert…or coffee drink.

Nutella Cold Brew

You’ll Need:

  • 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons Nutella
  • 1/2 cup milk or coffee creamer
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups cold brew coffee
  • Ice cubes
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Tall glass
  • Handheld milk frother
  • Frothing pitcher

The Process:

Step 1

making cold brew coffee

Before you do anything else, you’ll need to use your cold brew maker to make some joe. The brewing process takes 12 to 24 hours to complete, so make sure you let the grounds steep in cold water for a long enough time before attempting this recipe.

Step 2

Plopping a few spoonfuls of Nutella and pouring the milk over the chocolate hazelnut spread, mixing it all with frother

Plop a few spoonfuls of Nutella into your frothing pitcher. Don’t sweat it if you don’t have a frothing pitcher handy; a cup or small bowl will work just as well. Then, pour the milk, creamer, or cream of your choosing over the chocolate hazelnut spread, and use your frother to mix it all. (Pro-tip: Warming up the Nutella a bit first makes the blending process easier.)

Step 3

ice and chocolate sauce

Drop a few pieces of ice into a tall glass. We used coffee ice cubes* so we didn’t have to worry about the cold coffee drink getting watered down, but that’s optional. If you plan on making extra-chocolaty coffee, now’s the time to add a drizzle of chocolate sauce to the cup.

Step 4

Mixing cold brew and Nutella-milk mixture

Next, pour the cold brew over the ice. After all, what’s a coffee recipe without a dose of coffee? Top it off with the Nutella-milk mixture, stir the frothy coffee well, and enjoy!

*Coffee ice cubes are just what you’re likely imagining, and you make them just as you’d probably assume: pour coffee into ice cube trays and let it harden in the freezer. These cubes are a wiser use for the joe left in the drip machine after you’ve filled your coffee cup in the morning than letting it go to waste.

Minor Modifications

The steps outlined above walk you through our process for combining the taste of cold brew coffee with Nutella’s signature chocolatey hazelnut flavors, but there are a few things to note about our recipe.

First, we used Atlas Coffee cold brew for this simple recipe, but you’re free to use your standard coffee of choice. You don’t even have to use cold brew if you don’t want to; regular iced coffee is a suitable substitute.

Second, even though this recipe outlines the steps for making a cold drink, hot coffee lovers will be happy to know this beverage also holds its own at warmer temperatures. You’ll have to make a few substitutions (i.e., espresso instead of cold brew, warm milk, no ice, etc.), but either way, you end up with Nutella coffee.

You can make the Nutella coffee mixture even more fun by pouring all the ingredients into a high-powered blender and whipping up a perfect Nutella coffee slushie instead of a plain jane iced coffee drink.

Could Nutella cold brew become your go-to coffee creation?

How you choose to get your daily dose of coffee is up to you, but we recommend trying Nutella cold brew at least once, especially if you can’t resist having a taste of hazelnut flavor in your coffee cup. If you don’t like it, at least you can say you tried something new. And if you end up enjoying this Nutella iced coffee recipe, well…you’re welcome.

Happy Caffeinating!
